After shaping the planting rows, it was time for another important step—preparing each spot where a lavender plant would eventually call home.
To keep weeds under control while allowing our lavender to thrive, we covered the rows with heavy-duty woven landscape fabric. But the fabric is only part of the solution. Every plant needs its own opening, carefully measured and spaced to provide room for healthy growth.
Using a specialized tool, we burned clean, circular holes into the fabric at each planting location. Burning the openings instead of simply cutting them helps seal the edges of the woven fabric, reducing fraying and helping the material last for years to come.
Although it may seem like a small detail, this step required careful planning and patience. Every hole was measured, aligned, and placed with the future in mind. Each one represents the exact spot where a lavender plant would soon begin its journey.
Standing back and seeing the finished rows covered with evenly spaced planting holes was another exciting milestone. For the first time, it became easy to picture rows of mature lavender stretching across the farm, filling the air with fragrance and attracting bees, butterflies, and visitors alike.
Building Lavender Lane Farm™ is a reminder that lasting beauty is created through countless small steps. While burning hundreds of planting holes may not seem exciting on its own, each one brought us closer to turning a vision into reality.
Sometimes the most meaningful progress isn't measured by what you can harvest today, but by the care you take in preparing for tomorrow.
